U.S. Air Force Col. Craig A. Keyes is the Interim Director, Defense Health Network National Capital Region, Bethesda, Maryland.

Before joining the Air Force, Col. Keyes worked for two health care systems and completed a residency in hospital administration at the Geisinger Health System. He began his military career upon graduating from the University of Scranton graduate school in 1998, followed by health services administration training at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Col. Keyes has served at six medical groups, one medical wing, as a staff officer at Air Mobility Command, and at the Air Force Medical Support Agency.

He twice deployed to the Craig Joint Theater Hospital, Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, including serving as the hospital’s deputy commander, supporting advanced trauma care and theater aeromedical evacuation operations. He is board certified in health care management.

In prior assignments, Col. Keyes served as the commander of the 633rd Medical Group, USAF Hospital Langley, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, where he led an inpatient medical facility with a staff of 1,400 active duty and civilian medical professionals. In this role, he was responsible for ensuring maximum wartime clinical readiness and providing high quality, safe, trusted patient care for 417,000 beneficiaries in the Tidewater Military Health System multi-service market.

Col. Keyes has been awarded the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters; Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters; Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster; Air Force Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster; Air Force Recognition Ribbon; American Hospital Association Federal Healthcare Executive Award for Excellence; American College of Healthcare Executives Air Force Regent’s Award; American College of Healthcare Executives Air Force Regent’s Award – Senior Leader; Air Force Medical Service Corps Commitment to Service Award; and the Air Force Resource Management Team of the Year.
