Brig. Gen. Andrew L. Landers was raised in Camden, Arkansas. Landers graduated from Ouachita Baptist University as a Distinguished Military Graduate in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biology and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant through the Reserve Officers Training Corps program. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He then completed a Family Medicine Residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, and became board certified the same year. He followed his medical specialty training with a utilization tour at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where he served as a full-service Family Medicine Physician.
Prior to becoming the Commanding General, Medical Readiness Command, Pacific and Director, Defense Health Network Indo-Pacific, he was the Director, Policy and Force Integration HQDA, Office of the Surgeon General. Landers assignments include serving as the Officer in Charge, WAMC Family Medicine Residency Clinic, Residency Faculty Instructor, and full-service Family Medicine Physicians; OIC, Clark Health Clinic at Fort Bragg, N.C.; 1-325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division; Group Surgeon, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne); Command Surgeon, U.S. Army Special Forces Command (Airborne) (USASFC (A)); Deputy Commanding Officer, Special Warfare Medical Group (Airborne), U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School; Commander, Special Warfare Medical Group; Command Surgeon, Special Operations Command Central; Commander, 549th Hospital Center and the Brian D. Allgood Army Community Hospital at Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea; Supervisory Assistant Deputy, Health Affairs, Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve Affairs; Commander, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and Commander, 68th Theatre Medical Command.
Landers deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2006 and 2007, and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2012. In 2018, he graduated from the United States Army War College, earning a master’s degree in strategic studies. His awards and decorations include Legion of Merit (four Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (four Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with ‘V’ device (three Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (Oak Leaf Cluster), Valorous Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 2, NATO Medal, Combat Medical Badge, Flight Surgeon Badge, and Parachutist Badge.
