Chief Master Sgt. Tanya Y. Johnson is the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Defense Health Agency, Falls Church, Virginia. Johnson is responsible for providing enlisted oversight and guidance for the integration of military and civilian health care delivery for the Military Health System in support of readiness and peacetime healthcare delivery missions. Additionally, Johnson advises on the execution of the DHA’s Combat Support activities enabling the Army, Navy, and Air Force medical services to provide a medically ready force and ready medical force to Combatant Commands.
As the DHA Senior Enlisted Leader, Johnson is responsible for navigating the readiness, training, effective utilization, and morale of more than 130,000 active duty, civilian, and contract health care professionals in more than 661 medical and dental treatment facilities. Furthermore, Johnson facilitates the execution of joint shared services to include the TRICARE Health Plan, pharmacy, health information technology, research and acquisition, education and training, public health, medical logistics, facility management, budget resource management, and contracting. The DHA administers the TRICARE Health Plan providing worldwide medical, dental, and pharmacy programs to more than 9.5 million uniformed service members, retirees, and their families.
Prior to her current position, Johnson was the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Director of Staff at the DHA.
Johnson entered the Air Force as an Airman Basic in October 1993. She graduated Medical Laboratory Apprentice Technical Training Course in December 1994. Her background includes various positions as a Clinical Laboratory Technician, Protocol Assistant for the 375th Airlift Wing Commander, and the Executive Assistant to both the Aeronautical System Center and Air Education and Training Command, Command Chief Master Sergeant. Johnson has deployed in support of Operation United Assistance, Operation Inherent Resolve, and Operation Deliberate Resolve.
Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Armed Forces Service Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
