Dr. Glendon “Glen” Diehl currently serves as the acting Deputy Director of the Defense Health Agency. He supports the DHA Director in leading a joint, integrated Combat Support Agency enabling the Army, Navy, and Air Force medical services to provide a medically ready force and ready medical force to Combatant Commands in both peacetime and wartime.
Before coming to DHA, Diehl served as the Vice President for External Affairs at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. In this role, he was responsible for USU’s external engagement with Congress, allies and partner nations, federal agencies, state government, academia, non‐governmental organizations, and the private sector, as well as strategic communication and alumni affairs.
Dr. Diehl formerly served as the Subcommittee Staff Director for the House Armed Services Committee Subcommittee on Military Personnel and the Quality of Life Panel. In that role, he had oversight of Department of Defense personnel and end strength policy for military service‐members and civilians, education and training, recruiting, the Military Health System, pay and benefits, quality of life programs, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the Military Criminal Investigative offices, bio surveillance and security, and military inspectors general. In addition, he was responsible for the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Department of Defense Education Activity, Defense Commissary Agency, Defense Human Resources Activity, and Defense Health Agency oversight.
Dr. Diehl has also served as the Director of the Center for Global Health Engagement at USU. He also served at USU as an associate professor and principal investigator on several research grants with multiple academic publications. He holds a faculty appointment at American University and teaches a class on congressional affairs.
He is a retired Navy captain, and has had various staff tours with Navy Medicine, Navy Legislative Affairs, and as an Assignment Officer at the Bureau of Navy Personnel. He has also served at sea and in support of the Fleet Marine Force.
Dr. Diehl received his PhD in public policy and administration from American University, with a concentration in economics. He holds a Master of Arts degree from the U.S. Naval War College, a Master of Health Administration degree from Baylor University, and is a graduate of Fordham University’s International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance.
