Rear Admiral (lower half) Ewing, a native of Churchville, New York, began his military career in 1993 upon entering the University of Rochester School of Medicine as a recipient of the United States Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program. He graduated in 1997 and transferred to Naval Medical Center San Diego where he completed a Pediatric internship. Thereafter, he was assigned as the Medical Officer onboard USS GERMANTOWN (LSD-42), stationed in Sasebo, Japan. Upon return, he completed his Pediatric residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego in 2003 and continued his medical education, completing an Adolescent Medicine fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center in 2006. Following fellowship, he was assigned to the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis MD, where he served as Brigade Medical Officer; Director, Health Services; Medical Advisor to U.S. Naval Academy Admission Board; and team physician for numerous athletic teams.
In June 2010, he served as the Executive Assistant for RADM Alton Stocks, Commander, Navy Medicine East and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. In 2011, Ewing reported to U.S. Naval Hospital, Naples, Italy, serving as the Director, Medical Services and Director, Educational and Developmental Intervention Services. In 2014, Ewing returned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth where his duties included membership on the Command Executive Board while serving as Director, Medical Services for three years. In 2017, he was assigned as Executive Officer, Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point. Ewing served as Fleet Surgeon, U.S. Second Fleet from 2019-2020 and completed his Command tour at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune in July 2022. He completed a tour of duty as Fleet Surgeon, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, in June 2025 and was subsequently assigned as Director, Defense Health Network, National Capital Region, Bethesda MD.
Ewing is board certified in both Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics for the School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and holds a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University.
Ewing is a Surface Warfare Medical Officer. His awards and personal decorations include Legion of Merit (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and other unit and personal ribbons.
