Blood Products for Service Members
- Freeze-Dried Plasma can be stored without refrigeration for long periods. This allows plasma to be available closer to the front lines, saving lives while making it easier to transport medical supplies.
- Cryopreserved Platelets are frozen to last longer. This allows for platelets to be stored in large quantities, making them readily available during large-scale emergencies.
- Cold Stored Platelets can be stored at cold temperatures for extended periods. These platelets can last more than 100x longer than regular platelets, allowing for better supply chain management while treating blood loss in combat situations.
- Rapid Donor Screening improves the Walking Blood Bank program by quickly testing blood donors. This ensures that blood collection and transfusion is done safely in the field.

Infectious Disease/Disease Non-Battle Injury Protection
- Broad-Spectrum Snakebite Antidote is a safe, effective treatment against several different types of snake venom that can be used in difficult conditions around the world. It solves many problems with traditional antivenom, which only works for specific types of snakes, can have side effects, and is hard to use in remote areas.
- Diarrhea Prevention for Tactical Environments helps boost the immune system to enhance protection, especially from ETEC, a common cause of traveler's diarrhea. Illness caused by bacterial diarrhea is a continuing threat to service member readiness and lethality in the field.
- Malaria Prevention and Treatment are key to protecting warfighters deployed in tropical and subtropical areas where malaria remains an infectious disease threat. Tafenoquine is an important tool for preventing malaria, and intravenous artesunate is the only FDA-approved treatment for severe malaria, which can be life-threatening.
- Battlefield Wound Infection – Prevention and Treatment solutions are focused on managing wounds, preventing infections, and supporting combat casualty care during long periods in the field.
Battlefield Pain Management
We are developing a range of fast-acting pain relief treatments for use on the battlefield during field care and evacuation. DSUVIA is a currently available, safe solution that can be used without an IV. Rapid-acting non-opioid medications, such as ketamine, are also under development. The focus is on pain solutions that will be safe with repeated use during prolonged field care and evacuation.
Rapid Human Diagnostic Capabilities
Testing plays a valuable and important role in taking care of warfighters. It clarifies the cause of illness and helps guide treatment decisions. It also reduces the risk of troops unknowingly spreading the disease to others, ultimately preventing or stopping an outbreak.
- Tropical Fever Panel helps medical personnel to quickly diagnose diseases like dengue, chikungunya, Zika, malaria, leptospirosis, and typhoid fever. This will help them make informed treatment decisions and get service members back to the fight.
- Respiratory Panel rapidly identifies viruses and bacteria that cause breathing problems. This allows for more rapid treatment, preventing the spread of infection among troops.
- GI Panel quickly identifies viruses, bacteria, and parasites that cause stomach problems in combat situations, allowing for faster treatment and return to duty. Stomach infections are common among service members and can be made worse by stress and unique environments.

Blood Products for Military Working Dogs
