The Defense Health Agency's electronic Caregiver Resource Directory provides more than 2,000 trusted resources for caregivers of wounded warriors, accessible within three taps on their mobile phone, their computer, or tablet. Powered by the National Resource Directory, the eCRD streamlines access and supports caregivers through every stage of their journey.

"When we update the NRD with new resources, they are immediately added to the eCRD with just a check box," said Jonathan Morris, deputy director of Warrior Care Recovery Coordination Program, highlighting one of its user-friendly features.

Other eCRD features include:

  • User-friendly navigation: Simplified search function
  • Interactive links: Direct hyperlinks to each resource
  • Effortless printing: Print specific content from a single page without having to download the entire directory.

Relocation Support Made Simple

There are many services and resources available to caregivers and their families when they relocate, so the hand-off can go as smoothly as possible.

Morris explained how the NRD and the eCRD connect relocating caregivers and families with essential services and agencies to help them settle into their new communities. These platforms also provide access to peer-based support networks, much like the American Red Cross Military & Veteran Caregiver Network.

Self-Care and Crisis Assistance

Caregiving can be a 24/7/365 responsibility, and caregivers need to take care of themselves to continue their roles without burning out. The eCRD highlights self-care programs essential for caregiver wellness. These programs, along with other retreat-based initiatives, blend therapy and rejuvenation, offering caregivers the chance to recharge while building camaraderie and shared experiences with others in similar roles.

Additionally, the eCRD provides immediate access to support for pressing needs, whether related to mental health, employment, or education. Programs such as Military OneSource, VA Caregiver Support Program, and Blue Star Families offer free consultation via phone or live chat to offer personalized advice and answers to common caregiver challenges.

In times of emotional distress or suicide crisis, connect with 24/7/365, free, and confidential critical lifelines:

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Available for everyone. The 988 Line combines local care and resources with national standards and best practices.
  • Military Crisis Line: Offers specialized assistance for military caregivers and their families
  • DoD Safe Helpline – Provides a hotline for the Department of Defense community affected by sexual assault
