Flipping the Script
DHA recognizes that mission readiness depends on harnessing the firsthand experience of those on the front lines. Through this program and other innovation efforts, DHA aims to boost engagement, restore a sense of ownership at the frontline, and build a connected community of problem-solvers focused on improving readiness across DHA.
Our goal with the Innovation Fellowship Program is to provide our frontline teams with a greater sense of agency by harnessing their lived experiences and insights in the delivery of safe, quality health care for our nation’s warfighters.
How it Works
- Prospective fellows apply to the program with a “pitch” that attempts to address a local-level problem.
- Pitches are reviewed on a rolling basis based on relevance, feasibility, impact, and scalability across the DHA.
- Once a pitch is selected, fellows receive:
- Moderate funding for testing and prototyping
- An FTE deduction with their supervisor’s approval, which allows fellows to dedicate up to 25% of their time to their project
- A network of mentors with subject matter expertise
