Our Vision, Mission and Core Competencies

Diagnostic Services

Diagnostic materials accepted by the JPC include formalin-fixed tissue specimens, paraffin-embedded tissue specimens, stained histologic sections, cytologic preparations, radiographs and photographs. We do NOT accept fluid samples, any type of sample for culture, or stones (to include urinary or gallbladder stones) and we will immediately discard such samples upon receipt. We also do NOT accept tissues for rabies testing. Rabies testing samples need to be sent to the Food Analysis and Diagnostic Laboratory or a local animal health laboratory.

Veterinary Pathology Residency

The DODVPR is a world-renowned three-year program that trains Army veterinarians in the specialty of anatomic veterinary pathology with the objectives of obtaining specialty board certification and preparedness to support or lead military medical research and operational medicine missions.

For information about the DOD Veterinary Pathology Residency, please visit our page on SharePoint (CAC required; search for "64D Interest").

The DODVPR produces online educational material covering hundreds of systemic disease entities and thousands of cases for educational purposes that are utilized at DOD, university and research institutes worldwide. JPC Veterinary Pathology Services is 100% digitized, facilitating virtual consultations with contributors, disease experts, and Army veterinarians.

The veterinary systemic pathology training at JPC produces Veterinary Systemic Pathology Online, a database of 775 known disease entities encompassing multiple species and organ systems. Digital slides, history and case information are available for veterinary pathology trainees worldwide to access as training material.

Access our VSPO training materials at: www.askjpc.org/vspo.

Wednesday Slide Conference is held weekly throughout the academic calendar. Each conference presents four unknown veterinary pathology cases of classic or newly discovered diseases or entities that have been submitted by veterinary pathologists across the globe. Digital slides, history, case information, and conference discussion notes are available for veterinary pathologists and trainees worldwide. Many training programs utilize WSC cases as part of their own curriculum.
